Wigtownshire Women and Cancer Receive Impact Funding
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Wigtownshire Women and Cancer on their recent award of Impact Funding from the Volunteering Support Fund, which it understands is managed by the Scottish Government; understands that Wigtownshire Women and Cancer is a non-profit voluntary group supporting people and their families, who receive a cancer diagnosis, and that Wigtownshire Women and Cancer works for improved cancer services across Wigtownshire; notes that an Afternoon Tea event took place at the North West Castle hotel, Stranraer, on 27 April 2022 to welcome the funding, which it understands allowed members to meet, see and socialise following inability to do so due to the COVID-19 pandemic; understands that, with this funding, Wigtownshire Women and Cancer aim to offer services relating to respite, self-management and peer support, including pamper sessions with local therapists, coffee and chat support sessions, mindfulness sessions to manage anxiety, a befriending service and holiday respite; further understands that Wigtownshire Women and Cancer also aim to raise awareness of the services that they offer and reach new service users, partner agencies and allies, including through the development of a new website and updated social media channels; understands that ultimately, this funding will enable Wigtownshire Women and Cancer to represent the voices of those affected by cancer to a range of agencies, ensuring that their needs are reflected in the design and delivery of key services through, for example, carrying out meetings with key agencies and professionals; thanks Wigtownshire Women and Cancer for all that they do to support and advocate for those living with cancer across Wigtownshire, and wishes them every success for the future.
