The motion

That the Parliament understands that Cardinal Joseph Zen Ze-kiun was recently arrested by Hong Kong’s national security police for allegedly colluding with foreign forces; considers that this represents an escalation of what it sees as China’s assault on freedom of religion in Hong Kong; condemns any action by the Chinese government to supress freedom of speech, belief or expression in Hong Kong; understands that the prominent cultural studies scholar, Hui Po-keung, the veteran barrister, Margaret Ng Ngoi-yee, and the gay rights activist and pop singer, Denise Ho Wan-see, were also arrested alongside Cardinal Zen, and further understands that all four are trustees of the 612 Humanitarian Relief Fund, which is a non-profit organisation that was set up to help Hong Kong democracy protestors pay their legal fees.
