Supporting Offshore Oil and Gas Worker Strikes
The motion
That the Parliament supports workers who, it understands, are striking across several North Sea oil and gas platforms, such as the TotalEnergies-operated Elgin installation and Safe Caledonia flotel, and reportedly fighting for an increase in their base rate of pay; understands that what it sees as the wildcat industrial action by these workers is the result of the cost of living crisis, rising energy prices and what it considers is the profiteering of oil and gas corporations to the detriment of communities and workers; considers that the wealth of the country's land and sea is hoarded by a few, while many people across the economy work on low wages; believes that companies such as Bilfinger, Wood Group, BP, Shell, Harbour Energy, Taqa and TotalEnergies, and their executives, should be taxed fairly, through a windfall tax on profits and wealth taxes, and further believes that Scotland needs a greener, more progressive, economy, based on security, sustainability, and equality, with workers playing a leading role in decision making.
