Angus Minstrels Raise a Final £91,000 After 60 Years' Entertainment
The motion
That the Parliament celebrates the Angus Minstrels, who recently concluded six decades of entertainment and fundraising following their last performance in Arbroath in 2019; congratulates them on the impressive £750,000 raised by the amateur show since it was founded by the Mitchell family in 1961; acknowledges its beginnings as a one-off fundraiser event, which came to be enjoyed by generations of fans and even royalty; considers that numerous local and other good causes have benefited over the years, including the children’s hospice charity, CHAS, which, it understands, has received almost £300,000 from the Angus Minstrels; recognises their role in funding Arbroath’s first defibrillator, following the group’s producer, Ian Brown, tragically collapsing in rehearsal in 1984, and commends their final charity handover of more than £90,000, which, it understands, will support around 20 organisations.
