Acclaim for South Lanarkshire Writer, Elissa Soave

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Elissa Soave of Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, on winning the inaugural Primadonna Prize for her debut novel, Ginger and Me, to be published by HQ, Harper Collins on 21 July 2022; understands that Uddingston is the setting for this outstanding, but heartfelt, coming-of-age novel; further understands that Elissa’s young characters tend to be alienated, damaged and often angry, but their perspective on the world and the way in which they deal with their problems will reassure readers of the resilience of the human spirit, and notes that Elissa, as a debut Scottish novelist, will be supported by the Debut Lab initiative, a collaboration between the Scottish Book Trust and Creative Scotland to nurture the wonderful diversity of voices in Scottish writing, particularly from those who are currently under-represented.
