Grangemouth Teenager Teams up with SAMH on New Initiative

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the efforts of Abby Cook, from Grangemouth, in promoting the links between mental health and sport; understands that Abby, who has been diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and uses a wheelchair, discovered that many sporting venues were inaccessible, but noticed through her own experiences that her mental health improved when socialising and exercising with others; notes that Abby has been working in conjunction with the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) to launch a new initiative to highlight the influence of sport in supporting mental health and wellbeing while also breaking down a number of barriers that many people face when accessing sporting groups; considers that sport not only supports good mental health through body movement, but also through the social aspect that clubs for people with similar interests provide; congratulates Abby on her efforts in working on the new initiative with SAMH, and wishes her well for the future.
