Menstrual Hygiene Day

The motion

That the Parliament recognises that 28 May was Menstrual Hygiene Day; acknowledges that this provided the chance to highlight the importance of menstrual care, and to raise awareness about the issues faced by those around the world who do not have access to period products; understands that the theme for 2022 is making menstruation a normal fact of life by 2030, where no one is held back because they menstruate; notes a recent survey by WaterAid highlighting the impact of the cost of living crisis on women, girls and people who menstruate, with nearly a quarter (24%) of women and girls in the UK who menstruate reporting that they, or their family, have struggled to afford period products in the last year, and applauds all campaigners who break the silence around periods, tackle the stigma often associated with them, and raise awareness of the importance of period dignity for women, girls and people who menstruate in Scotland and around the world.
