Citadel Centre to be Saved
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the reported decision of South Ayrshire Council to invest £10 million in Ayr’s Citadel leisure facility; understands that the facility hosts one of four diving pools in Scotland, and is the only facility on the west coast with diving boards; further understands that the leisure centre is home to many of sport’s leading figures and those training for the Olympic sport; acknowledges that there is a local diving club that uses the facilities for training regularly and that the next nearest centre is Edinburgh; believes that previous plans to relocate the centre were rejected by the general public, with a petition to save the facility reaching over 3,000 signatures; considers that the result of this decision, to save the much loved facility, is welcomed by all, and believes that saving the sports centre will continue to encourage young swimmers and divers to pursue their careers and the Olympic sport locally.
