40 Years of Accord Hospice
The motion
That the Parliament commends Accord Hospice, in Paisley, on 40 years of outstanding service to the people of Paisley, Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire; notes that the hospice is a charity that provides end of life care and support to 1,200 patients and their families every year; understands that the hospice was founded 40 years ago, in 1982, with a public meeting at John Neilson School; further understands that in 1987 it moved premises from its original home on Back Sneddon Street to its current base in Hawkhead, on the site of the old Hawkhead Hospital; understands that the hospice relies on what it sees as the heroic work of its devoted nursing and other staff, and also on the dedication of approximately 450 volunteers who support the hospice in various ways every year; further understands and commends that the hospice in 2021 launched an Accord@Home service to support those facing end of life care to do so in their own home, thanks to a £200,000 grant from the National Lottery Community Fund, and congratulates and commends all those who have contributed to the work of the hospice over the last 40 years.
