Roy Bickford Young Awarded British Empire Medal

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Roy Bickford Young on being awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to skiing, and to the community in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Honours List; understands that, as national head coach for cross-country skiing, he re-established the national cross country skiing programme after a 20 year gap, established the junior development squad programme and led teams to three Olympic Winter Games; further understands that he was instrumental in the creation and development of Huntly Nordic Ski Centre, which has produced four Winter Olympians since 2010, and that since his retirement has devoted his time to grass-roots coaching at the ski-centre; believes this award to be thoroughly deserved, and commends him on his decades of tireless service to Nordic skiing.
