The motion

That the Parliament recognises the appointment of the first woman to hold the office of Provost of Midlothian Council, Cllr Debbi McCall, who is serving her second term as a councillor for Penicuik ward; understands that the roles of head of the Council and chief executive of the Council are also currently filled by women, Cllr Kelly Parry and Dr Grace Vickers respectively; notes that the new Midlothian Council administration will also see a gender balanced cabinet; considers that, given the ongoing under representation of women in local government, this represents real progress, and hopes that it will inspire other women to consider becoming involved in local democracy.
