Children in Poverty Inverclyde Awarded Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service

The motion

That the Parliament applauds the work of Children in Poverty Inverclyde, which has led to the charity receiving the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service; understands that founder, Pat Burke, and his trustees have devoted the last seven years to helping struggling families in the Greenock and Inverclyde constituency, and have raised more than £25,000 to send children on holiday breaks; recognises that Children in Poverty Inverclyde also runs Christmas toy appeals and sends youngsters to see pantomimes and on holiday breaks as part of its commitment to alleviate poverty and provide relief to low-income families; believes that this award reflects the huge difference that Children in Poverty Inverclyde makes to local families despite being a small charity; thanks Pat, the trustees and all those who volunteer with and donate to help fund the organisation’s activities, and hopes that there comes a time when poverty charities are no longer required.
