The motion

That the Parliament notes that the Royal Life Saving Society UK’s annual Drowning Prevention Week runs from 18 to 25 June 2022, with this year’s event following on from 2021 when, tragically, 58 accidental drownings were reported across Scotland by the National Water Safety Forum; acknowledges that alongside Drowning Prevention Week, which promotes the need for all of society to take steps to ensure that accessible waterways are secure places for everyone to enjoy safely, Scottish Water is also urging people to behave responsibly and not to take risks near Scotland’s reservoirs, rivers and lochs this summer, and encourages all people in Scotland to follow Scottish Water’s safety advice, including keeping pets secure when near water and avoiding swimming in reservoirs where there are many hidden dangers, such as deep, cold water and steep banks.
