Stuart McLellan and Ross Nelson Receive MBEs for First Responder Service

The motion

That the Parliament recognises that Stuart McLellan and Ross Nelson have been awarded MBEs for their efforts in creating and operating the Neilston and Uplawmoor Community First Responders; understands that this service, which was founded in 2013, responds to medical emergencies before paramedics arrive and that, to date, has responded to more than 2,000 call outs; further understands that the service consists of 20 volunteers who cover as much of the local area as possible; congratulates the group for adding to its accolades after having received a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2018; recognises that the service not only provides a vital health service to the people of Neilston and Uplawmoor, but also offers the First Responder volunteers who are considering a career in the ambulance service the opportunity to gain experience; further recognises that, in addition to their countless hours of dedication and hard work, Stuart and Ross have raised thousands of pounds that have gone towards the installation of defibrillators in Neilston; considers that Stuart and Ross have founded a service that is rightly getting the recognition that it deserves, and celebrates that their personal hand in creating the service is quite rightly receiving praise and admiration.
