Celebrating Broughty Ferry Beach
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the news that Broughty Ferry Beach, in Dundee, has been named one of the best beaches in Scotland for the 19th time in Scotland’s Beach Award 2022, which celebrates clean, well-managed and sustainable beaches; notes that the annual awards scheme, run by Keep Scotland Beautiful, serves as a national benchmark for local environmental quality measuring, and assesses beaches on beach management and environmental best practices; understands that Broughty Ferry Beach was included in a "My Beach Your Beach" campaign pilot in summer 2021 as Dundee City Council worked with Keep Scotland Beautiful to help people to care for the beach and bathing water by raising public awareness to reduce beach pollution from litter, gulls and dogs; considers that blue spaces have a significant impact on public health and wellbeing, providing places for people to relax and enjoy being outdoors; further considers that beaches like Broughty Ferry Beach in the North East Scotland region, as well as across wider Scotland, are a valuable national asset, providing critical habitats for many species and the basis for activities including tourism, coastal recreation and fishing; commends the hard work of staff, volunteers and everyone involved, and recognises that receiving such an award is a remarkable achievement.
