Sanitisation Technology Set to Deliver Environmental Benefits to Global Fashion and Textile Industry
The motion
That the Parliament celebrates the development of a new eco-friendly sanitisation technology that could reduce landfill waste; understands that the technology, developed collaboratively by the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) and North Lanarkshire-based Advanced Clothing Solutions (ACS), has the potential to revolutionise the fashion and textile industry by prolonging the life of garments; notes that this new sterilisation technology has reportedly been shown to effectively kill a vast range of germs, fungi and viruses, facilitating more extensive clothing reuse, including previously deemed single-use garments such as personal protective equipment (PPE), and that the eco-friendly solution uses ozone gas rather than water and/or detergent to decontaminate fabrics; understands that the "sanitation chamber" will be installed at ACS’s automated fashion fulfilment facility in Holytown, North Lanarkshire, and will offer retailers and brands an alternative, environmentally-friendly solution for sanitising used clothing and accessories, and considers that this revolutionary, patented technology resulted from the strong partnership developed between UWS and ACS, and was initiated through Innovate UK’s Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programme.
