Lodged by Stuart McMillan (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 20 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that Children in Poverty Inverclyde has partnered up with Gourock Golf Club to give disadvantaged young people an opportunity to learn to play the game; understands that the local welfare charity is to fund 10 places at Gourock Golf Club in a pioneering link-up with the club’s professional, Derek Watters; recognises that Children in Poverty Inverclyde has invested £1,000 to pay for the youngsters’ places, allowing them to take part in an eight-week programme, with a chance to go on beyond that and develop their golf skills further; believes that widening opportunities for young people from low-income backgrounds is an important part of tackling childhood poverty, and poverty more generally; commends Gourock Golf Club for its eagerness to work with Children in Poverty Inverclyde to pilot a new initiative to open up the sport to young people in Inverclyde, and hopes that other golf clubs across Inverclyde will come on board to expand the scheme in due course.
