Close the Gap’s New Think Business Think Equality

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the reported launch of new, free resources to address sexual harassment in the workplace; understands that these have been developed by Close the Gap, which it considers to be Scotland’s women and the labour market expert; recognises that the resources form part of Think Business Think Equality, Close the Gap’s online self-assessment tool for small and medium-sized enterprises, which are designed to support them to advance, and benefit from, gender equality in their businesses; understands that the new resources include guides on how to develop a policy on sexual harassment, deal with reports of sexual harassment, and create a workplace culture that prevents it from happening in the first place; believes that there is a need for this resource, in light of reports that over 70% of women reported having experienced or witnessed sexual harassment in the workplace in Scotland; encourages employers to utilise the tool to help improve their employment practices; considers that employers have a pivotal role in preventing violence against women; believes that creating a zero-tolerance culture to violence against women in the workplace and in wider society should be a priority for all, and welcomes the work of Close the Gap in this area.
