The motion

That the Parliament applauds Robert Gordon University (RGU) for becoming the first higher or further education establishment in Grampian to sign up for the national Breastfeeding Friendly Scotland scheme, which is run by local health boards and aims to support, normalise and celebrate breastfeeding; understands that this decision was taken after data from the Scottish Maternal and Infant Nutrition Survey showed that women who breastfeed lack confidence to do so in public and worry about being challenged; considers that breastfeeding is key to sustainable development strategies, as it improves nutrition, ensures food security and reduces inequalities between and within countries; believes that this effort from RGU is the embodiment of this year's theme for World Breastfeeding Week (#WBW22), "Step Up for Breastfeeding"; notes that World Breastfeeding Week is a global campaign to raise awareness and galvanise action on themes related to breastfeeding and is observed in the first week of August each year; recognises RGU for its excellent work in supporting its local communities, and commends all who plan to do their part to "Step Up for Breastfeeding" for #WBW22.
