St Magnus International Festival 2022

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates St Magnus International Festival on its 45th anniversary this year, which is set for an in-person return from 17 to 24 June; recognises that the midsummer festival has grown to become one of the foremost arts events in the UK; understands that the annual arts celebration of music, drama, poetry and literature is held across the isles through a range of live performances and events, incorporating Orkney’s vibrant heritage and culture; notes that this year's festival will highlight Scotland's Year of Stories and will host The Royal Scottish National Orchestra; acknowledges the contribution of Alasdair Nicolson, the director of the festival since 2010, and the work of the late Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, founder of the festival; believes that the festival makes an invaluable contribution to local tourism, bringing in visitors and artists from across the world, as well as for the local economy and arts sector; applauds the festival for giving a platform to a great variety of artists to showcase their extraordinary talents, and wishes everyone involved a successful and enjoyable week with the creation of more wonderful memories.
