Revenge Porn Helpline Annual Report Launch
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the launch by South West Grid for Learning (SWGfL) of the Revenge Porn Helpline report, Intimate image abuse, an evolving landscape, which covers the UK; notes that reports to the Helpline doubled in 2019-20 and continued to rise in 2021, and that through support from the Scottish Government’s Delivering Equally Safe Fund, the Helpline is now supporting victims in Scotland; understands that cases of revenge porn have increased by over 40% between 2020 and 2021, with 75% of cases being reported by female victims; further understands that when images have been shared, on average, a male victim reports two images whereas a female victim reports 42 images, and that a third of victims find out about the images from someone telling them, with another third finding out from the perpetrator; understands that, for the first time, sextortion is now the most reported issue making up around 25% of cases, and commends the ongoing work of SWGfL in furthering online safety in the belief that everyone should benefit from technology, free from harm, and the work of the SWGfL Scotland team, which is taking forward key projects such as promoting Safer Internet Day, delivering free Online Safety Live Scotland briefings to professionals, and delivering training and education in response to demand.
