International Women in Engineering Day
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that 23 June 2022 was International Women in Engineering Day; believes that there is a need to raise the profile of women in engineering and focus attention on the amazing career opportunities available to girls in this exciting industry; recognises what it sees as the importance of supporting and promoting women and girls in industry, not only as beneficiaries, but in leading the path in changes in attitude, which, it believes, include promoting equality, diversity and inclusion; notes reports that women now make up 16.5% of all engineers, compared to 10.5% reported in 2010, and that the number of women working in engineering roles has increased from 562,000 in 2010 to 936,000 in 2021, and commends what it sees as the successes of STEM groups across the country, which are promoting and championing women and girls in engineering.
