The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Ayrshire officer, Joanne Hay, on winning the Inspirational Woman of the Year 2022 award for overcoming adversity and inspiring others, presented by the British Association for Women in Policing; notes that the British Association for Women in Policing was founded in 1987 and, it understands, is the only organisation in the UK to embrace women regardless of rank or grade within the police service; further notes that the awards ceremony was held on 13 June 2022; understands that, following nine years of service, Joanne faced a devastating prognosis, developing symptoms due to a neurological condition; further understands that Joanne fought daily to overcome these challenging symptoms, which affected her speech, mobility and memory; acknowledges her strength and hard work as she continued to deliver an exemplary service supporting officers in detecting crime; recognises that this strength, alongside her positivity, has inspired her colleagues and those in the service who have also developed or been diagnosed with a disability; commends Joanne in all the work that she does and in advocating for others through her work with the Police Disability and Carers Association, and applauds the bravery, commitment and professionalism of the country's policemen and woman who, it considers, have worked tirelessly to keep the public safe, and wishes Joanne continued success in her years of service.
