40 Years of The Railway Tavern
The motion
That the Parliament recognises 40 years of The Railway Tavern in Motherwell; understands that, 40 years ago, Patrick Ross opened the doors of The Railway Tavern for the first time, thus opening Motherwell’s iconic pub; further understands that, in 1848, on the land where the Tavern now sits, there were two houses owned by the Caledonian Railway and that, in 1873, most of the houses were demolished, but the Railway Inn was left in its original position prior to being reconstructed at a later date, bringing it to its present appearance; notes that the business changed hands several times, with the pub being renamed to its current name, The Railway Tavern, by John Ballie; understands that the business was registered as a grocers and wines and spirits merchant for a number of years and, since June 1982, The Railway Tavern has been successfully run along traditional lines by the current licence holder, Pat Ross; notes that, presently, The Railway Tavern is a well-loved local pub, which showcases local musicians and hosts fundraising events for local and national charities; congratulates the Ross family on their 40-year tenure of The Railway Tavern, and wishes them, and the staff, all the very best for the future.
