Celebrating 100 years of Women in Law

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the ongoing Women in Law Project, spearheaded by academics from Glasgow and Glasgow Caledonian Universities, and designed to collect 100 voices to mark the 100 years since women were admitted to enter the legal profession in 1919; commends the digital exhibition on the University of Glasgow Law School website, which includes blogs, essays, podcasts and videos showcasing the women lawyers who have had a connection to the University of Glasgow School of Law over the last 100 years; celebrates the fact that the most recent Law Society of Scotland Diversity Data indicates that women make up 55% of the professional population and 66% of student intake; notes what it sees as the encouraging increase in the number of solicitors from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) background (under the age of 30), and urges universities to continue to pursue increased diversity in their student populations.
