Ardoch Burn Crossing, Doune Receives Commendation at Scottish Design Awards 2022

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Historic Environment Scotland (HES) on receiving a Commendation in the Masterplanning/Landscaping: Public Realm/Landscaping category of the Scottish Design Awards 2022 for the newly constructed Ardoch Burn Crossing at Doune Castle; understands that the Ardoch Burn Crossing was made possible with funding from VisitScotland administered, Rural Tourism Infrastructure Fund (RTIF) and was the result of a collaborative partnership involving HES, Stirling Council and local community groups, the Kilmadock Development Trust, Kilmadock Community Council and Doune and District Business Association; further understands that the new bridge spans the Ardoch Burn by The Mill of Doune and was built using local timber, primarily Scottish Larch, which was sourced locally from woods to the north east of Doune in conjunction with the Moray Estate, and locally sourced stone was also used with HES’s own in house apprentice team learning traditional skills to cut and lay it in place, and understands that the Ardoch Burn Crossing forms part of a wider interpretive trail with new information panels, fingerposts and way markers highlighting different attractions to capitalise on the huge growth in popularity Doune Castle has had in recent years, thanks particularly to Doune Castle's prominent featuring of the television programme, Outlander.
