An End to Hatred and Intolerance
The motion
That the Parliament notes the rally organised by the Muslim Council of Scotland outside the Scottish Parliament on 30 June 2022 calling for an end to Islamophobia; further notes what it sees as the importance of freedom of expression but considers that it should be exercised in such a way that does not foment hatred or acts of violence; believes that minority communities should feel confident in being able to report incidents of abuse and hate crime to the authorities with the knowledge that they will be taken seriously; calls on the Scottish Government to bring forward its new hate crime strategy as a matter of urgency; further calls on world leaders and prominent politicians to exercise restraint and responsibility in their language, given the platforms that they hold and the consequences that their language can have, and expresses its hope that diverse communities in an ever more interconnected world will approach each other with an attitude of tolerance, respect and mutual understanding.
