Troon Charity Boss Honoured with Pride of Scotland Award
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Troon’s Louise Russell, founder of Give a Dog a Bone charity, on being awarded the Pride of Scotland Community Hero award; understands that Louise was presented the accolade on 21 June 2022 at a ceremony in Edinburgh in recognition of her work in supporting the elderly; notes that the charity has a community space in Troon providing free activities for over 60s, a pet foodbank and a team of companionship dogs; further notes that the charity has an additional two community spaces across the country with one in Glasgow and another in Alloa; understands that the charity addresses both animal welfare and isolation in older people within the community by supporting pensioners and removing financial barriers in pet adoption; recognises Give a Dog a Bone as a safe space for the elderly to chat and engage with the staff and volunteers; applauds Louise for her work in tackling social isolation and bringing together thousands of animals and the elderly through the work and activities provided, and wishes Louise, her team and the charity continued success in its future endeavours.
