Athlete Shona Girdwood from Bellshill Sets Incredible Half Ironman Time

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Bellshill-based athlete and leisure coach, Shona Girdwood, on her inspirational completion of the recent Staffordshire half Ironman triathlon event; notes that Shona crossed the 70.3 mile finishing line two and a half minutes ahead of her nearest competitor in a winning time of five hours and 37 minutes; understands that Shona's finishing time, as well as taking first place in her 50–54 age group, would have been good enough to win the 45-49 age group, as well as deliver her a podium finish in the 40-44 category; notes that Shona's astonishing performance qualified her for the half Ironman World Championship; understands that Shona, who runs the SG Coaching Academy in South Lanarkshire, also coached five novice participants to successful completion of this endurance event; applauds Shona’s skills and experience in supporting other athletes; commends her inspirational performance, and wishes her every success in all future triathlon events.
