Port Glasgow Zero Waste Pantry Open for Business

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the opening of The Port Pantry at Inverclyde Community Development Trust’s premises in Port Glasgow, making it the second zero waste pantry in Inverclyde; notes that membership of the Greenock-based pantry, which opened in 2020, has grown to 1,110 users who, after paying their £1 joining fee, can access up to £15 worth of food and toiletries each week at the cost of £2.50; understands that members are also offered welfare benefits advice and support via local mental health charity, Mind Mosaic; further understands that the pantry is a real community effort with local organisations including, the Salvation Army in Port Glasgow, Amazon in Gourock and River Clyde Home’s Homefix team helping the Trust get the pantry set up, and that fresh vegetables are provided by the Inverclyde Shed; applauds the Trust on its commitment to supporting local people by providing them with access to discounted food in a way that also reduces waste, and wishes the Trust all the best as it continues to develop new support services for the Inverclyde community.
