Troon Mum Launches Hopeful Debut Novel

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Troon’s Claire Alexander on the launch of her debut novel, Meredith; understands that Claire began writing her novel six months before the first lockdown; notes that the novel isbased on a reclusive protagonist who hasn’t left her home in 1,214 days, experiencingsimilarities to the COVID-19 pandemic; understands that the novel’s maincharacter, Meredith, found herself uncovering ways to keep her mind occupiedand stay connected to people; further understands that the story unfolding soonbecame a reality for Claire as she found herself in her character’s shoes asthe pandemic unfolded and found she too would be baking, completing jigsaws andcommunicating online; notes that Claire’s story navigates loneliness,connection and mental health; believes that Claire was able to use the lockdownduring the pandemic as a way to further explore her themes; understands thatClaire launched her book in Argyle Street’s Waterstones before hosting an eventlocally in The Herbary Troon, and wishes Claire every success with her noveland all the best with her future.
