National Campaign Launched to Support Young Women Facing Abuse in Their Intimate Relationships
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges the publication of The Rise Report: Supporting young women facing abuse in their intimate relationships; understands that the Young Women’s Movement Scotland (YWCA) were commissioned by Scottish Women’s Aid (SWA) to lead work to understand the views of young women in Scotland, what they believe a healthy relationship looks like, what domestic abuse is and what improvements can be made in service delivery; notes that the report found that 36% of young women had been in an intimate relationship with someone who had harmed them physically or emotionally, and nearly three quarters knew someone who had experienced abuse; recognises that the report makes a number of recommendations for how specialist support services can better meet the needs of young women experiencing abuse, and welcomes the launch of a national campaign to raise awareness of the findings of The Rise Report to simultaneously help increase engagement from those seeking help and support, as well as reaching those working with young people who, it believes, can implement the report’s recommendations into their own services.
