Glasgow and Aberdeen Airports Lead Medical Distribution Drone Project with NHS Scotland

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Glasgow and Aberdeen airports' parent company AGS Airports Ltd on leading a pioneering consortium to deliver what will be the UK's first medical distribution network using drones; recognises that AGS leads the CAELUS (Care and Equity – Healthcare Logistics UAS Scotland) consortium; welcomes that CAELUS has secured £10.1 million funding from Future Flight Challenge at UK Research and Innovation; understands that the CAELUS project is part of a UK trial using drones to deliver medical services and supplies; recognises the opportunity for drones to help connect GP surgeries, hospitals, medical distribution centres and pathology laboratories; notes the potential for drones to help provide improved medical treatment to people, especially in rural and island communities; foresees future drone use to speed up the delivery of medical supplies, reduce waiting times and improve healthcare equity; notes the consortium's work to ensure that drones will be technically, financially and socially viable; commends the project for its ingenuity and use of green aviation technology; notes that the CAELUS consortium members are AGS Airports, NHS Scotland, National Air Traffic Services (NATS), University of Strathclyde, Connected Places, Catapult, ANRA Technologies UK, Atkins Arup, Cellnex UK, Commonplace Digital, DGP Intelsius, Dronamics, Plane Finder, Skyports Drone Services, The Drone Office and Trax International, and wishes those involved every success with the project.
