The motion

That the Parliament welcomes reports that a contract has now been signed with Gynaecologic and Reconstructive Surgery of Missouri that will allow mesh-injured women in Scotland to visit the reported renowned expert, Dr Dionysios Veronikis, in the United States for mesh removal surgery; understands that, as part of the agreement, surgery to remove mesh and other costs, including transport and accommodation, will be met by NHS Scotland; considers that the campaign for justice in Scotland has been driven by the Scottish Mesh Survivors, led by Elaine Holmes, Olive McIlroy and others, and that it is their heroic and unrelenting efforts that have ultimately secured this outcome; believes that damaging mesh surgery has devastated the lives of far too many women in Scotland and that the fight to achieve justice for mesh survivors at the Scottish Parliament has been a truly cross-party effort; understands that the surgical expertise and track record of Dr Veronikis offers mesh-injured women a hope, long since thought to have been lost, that they can regain much greater normality to their lives; considers that, while it is welcome the contract has now been signed, it is essential for mesh survivors in Scotland to be able to receive medical care in the United States as soon as possible, and encourages the early treatment of all those eligible and who wish to visit Dr Veronikis to have the opportunity to do so without any further delay.
