Joe O'Raw MBE, the Craigneuk Historian

The motion

That the Parliament notes with great sadness the passing of Craigneuk historian, Joe O’Raw MBE; acknowledges what it sees as his dedication and passion to ensure that the military heritage across Lanarkshire was recognised, documented and never forgotten for generations to come; understands that he was a member of the Craigneuk War Memorial Group, helping to raise over £65,000 to have the names of almost 250 servicemen inscribed on the Craigneuk Cenotaph; notes that he received the Senior Hero award at the Our Heroes Awards; understands that Joe published several books, one being, In Memory Of The Fallen, which is an extensive record of those from Craigneuk who served in two World Wars, Egypt and Northern Ireland and was instrumental in tracking down the final resting place of Wishaw soldier, Private Dennis Doyle, who was killed by a German sniper in the Great War; praises Joe for his dedication and commitment to fallen heroes, and offers its condolences to the family and friends of Joe O’Raw, in the wake of his passing.
