Eurovision 2023

The motion

That the Parliament regrets that Ukraine, winners of the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest, are not able to host the competition in 2023 due to the ongoing Russian invasion; notes the announcement of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) that the BBC will host the 67th Eurovision Song Contest in the United Kingdom in 2023; believes that Aberdeen is without doubt the best place to hold such a European event given the city’s reputation as the Energy Capital of Europe and the strong ties it maintains across Europe; notes that The Event Complex Aberdeen (TECA) is Scotland’s largest capacity venue; understands that it has received international recognition through being named the Association of Event Organisers Venue of the Year in 2019, and has a proven track record of hosting significant cultural events such as the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards, and supports Aberdeen’s bid to host the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest.
