REACH Advocacy Continues to Empower People With Problem Substance Use

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Coatbridge-based, grassroots, third sector organisation, REACH Advocacy, on continuing to provide training to Alcohol and Drug Partnership areas across Scotland through a series of one-day workshops, an SQA-approved 12 to 14 week course, and the creation of a REACH Advocacy Practice Award; understands that REACH Advocacy raises awareness and understanding of the Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) standards, which, it understands, are guided by the principle of a human-rights-based approach; further understands that the organisation intends to bring its expert training into justice settings in 2023; praises the organisation for, it understands, being singled out as a national example of independent advocacy and social support in a recent report on the implementation of the MAT standards across Scotland, and commends the group for its ongoing diligent work with National Collaborative, which, it understands, seeks to empower people with problem substance use to enable their voices to be heard, as well as establishing how rights can be effectively implemented to improve the lives of people with problem substance use.
