The motion

That the Parliament notes The Galloway Hoard: Viking-Age Treasure special exhibition, taking place at Aberdeen Art Gallery from 30 July to 23 October 2022; understands that the hoard, buried over 1,000 years ago and discovered in 2014 at Balmaghie, Kirkcudbrightshire, contains over 100 diverse objects including jewellery, textiles, wool, linen and silk; notes that the hoard was acquired by National Museums Scotland following support from the National Heritage Memorial Fund, the Art Fund, the Scottish Government and a major public fundraising campaign; further notes that the exhibition has free admission and enables people to examine the objects, including hidden details found through x-rays, CT scans and 3D modelling, and find out more about the hoard and Vikings; commends the efforts of all involved in studying, managing and showcasing the hoard, and encourages people in Aberdeen and across the north east to find out more during its stay in the city.
