Carnoustie’s Eilish McColgan Wins 10,000m Commonwealth Gold

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates middle- and long-distance runner Eilish McColgan, who grew up in Carnoustie, on winning her first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, running a Commonwealth Games record of 30 minutes and 48.60 seconds for Team Scotland in the 10,000m final; notes that she follows in the footsteps of her mother, Liz, who won the same title at the 1986 and 1990 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh and Auckland, and applauds this exceptional family success story; acknowledges that Eilish overcame sickness and injury earlier in the year to achieve this win; wishes her continued success going forward, and believes that people across Scotland will take pride and inspiration from her achievement.
