Congratulating Taylah Paterson and Team Scotland

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Team Scotland's Women's 4x100m relay team on reaching the 2022 Commonwealth Games final in Birmingham; believes that it is the first time Team Scotland has reached the Women's 4x100m relay final since the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh; considers that Team Scotland put in a terrific performance against a strong field, completing the final in 45.01 seconds; commends Team Scotland's Taylah Paterson, from Orkney, and her teammates Rebecca Matheson, Sarah Malone and Alisha Rees on their outstanding achievement and on breaking the Scottish record in qualifiers at the Diamond League in May 2022; believes that their achievements will serve as an inspiration to generations of young athletes in Scotland; applauds Taylah, who has since got married and competed under her maiden name of Spence, for balancing her debut with Team Scotland while working as a midwife at The Balfour in Kirkwall; thanks the Orkney Athletics Club for supporting Taylah and countless more young athletes from Orkney to compete and train locally and nationally, and praises the whole of Team Scotland on their brilliant performance at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
