The motion

That the Parliament marks the National Mourning Day of Bangladesh on August 15; understands that this event marks the day in 1975 when  Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was the country’s first President and is considered to be the father of the nation, was assassinated along with 18 of his family members in a military coup in Dhaka; expresses its sympathy to the living members of Sheikh Mujib’s family and the people of Bangladesh on the anniversary of this event; notes what it sees as the high regard and depth of feeling of the people of Bangladesh towards their founding father Bangabandhu and his legacy, and believes that Bangladesh’s continued prosperity, freedom and independence vindicates Sheikh Mujib’s "Golden Bengal" vision and his values of a secular and inclusive Bangladesh.
