Bishopbriggs Academy Awarded Silver in LGBT Charter

The motion

That the Parliament commends the pupils and staff of Bishopbriggs Academy on obtaining the LGBT Charter at Silver Level; applauds the ways in which the school community has embraced training and reviews of policies, practices and resources to enable Bishopbriggs Academy to become an even more welcoming and inclusive place for LGBTQI+ learners; notes that LGBT Youth Scotland, the awarding body, remarked that LGBTQI+ inclusion is clearly embedded into the culture of the school; gratefully acknowledges the commitment of pupils in engaging with peers through presentations and regular articles in the school magazine, The Bishy Bulletin; is grateful for the development of a weekly lunchtime Pride Club for LGBTQI+ pupils and their allies; recognises what it sees as the outstanding efforts of staff across departments and especially of music teacher, Mr Greig Ratcliff, in championing projects that support inclusivity; wishes all at Bishopbriggs Academy continued success, and encourages schools not yet familiar with LGBT Youth Scotland to explore the positive impacts of working through the Charter Journey.
