Max, Medical Alert Assistance Dog, Saves the Day
The motion
That the Parliament commends Max and Kate Shaw, from Newmains, for coming to the aid of Norman Bryson who suffered a heart attack in a local park; applauds Max for alerting strangers to Norman’s poor health, and Kate for her quick actions, running almost one mile from her workplace in Asda, with the store's defibrillator machine; notes that immediate initiation of CPR can quadruple the chance of survival from an out-of-hospital heart attack and that defibrillation within five minutes of collapse can produce survival rates up to 70%; understands that Norman rescued and adopted Max, along with all his pups, from shepherds in Romania, as they were facing death, and trained him to be his Medical Alert Assistance Dog, even when many people had advised against it; notes that NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde staff met with Max to acknowledge his dedication and care that he provided, as well as the positive impact to Norman’s life; pays tribute to Max and Kate for intervening promptly before the paramedics took over, and wishes Norman a speedy recovery.
