Scots Olympic Curler, Eve Muirhead, Retires from the Sport

That the Parliament acknowledges the decision taken by Olympic curling champion, Eve Muirhead, to retire from the sport that she has graced for many years; notes that the Perth-born sportswoman won the World Junior Championships on four occasions, in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011, before achieving European success three times in Moscow, St Gallen and Lillehammer, before winning the World mixed doubles title alongside Bobby Lammie from Stranraer, and leading the Great Britain side, which won gold at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing; recognises her achievement in winning a gold medal in China, which saw her become Scotland’s most decorated curler and chosen as one of Great Britain’s flag bearers at the recent Winter Olympics; praises her skill on the ice and commitment to curling that enabled her to become the youngest skip to win an Olympic medal when her team claimed bronze in Sochi in 2014; notes her achievements also earned Eve the BBC Scotland Young Sports Personality of the Year, and that her involvement in top-flight curling was officially recognised by Her Majesty The Queen, when she was made an MBE in 2020 before gaining further recognition for her services to the sport in the most recent Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2022 when she was appointed an OBE; acknowledges the comments made by sportscotland Chief Executive, Stewart Harris, who described her impact on curling in Scotland as being "unparalleled", and accepting her 11 gold medals in Olympics, World and European Championships as being a "true testament to her dedication" to the sport, and wishes the 32-year-old athlete every success in the coming years.
