Successful Orkney Agricultural Show Season 2022

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Orkney's various agricultural societies, associations and committees on another successful season of agricultural, horticultural and industrial shows across the county; welcomes the return of shows to the East Mainland, Shapinsay, The Hope, Dounby and County in Kirkwall in 2022, following their cancellations in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic; further welcomes the Sanday Show after its successful return in 2021; believes that the shows are an integral part of community life in Orkney and offer what it sees as a fantastic opportunity for local sectors to showcase the islands' high-quality and world-renowned livestock and produce; understands that the shows also provide a fun day out for all ages offering various activities, attractions and dances, which helps to bring people together from across the county; congratulates the South Ronaldsay and Burray Agricultural Society on its belated 175th anniversary and to the Shapinsay Agricultural Association on its 150th anniversary, as well as on attracting its highest ever recorded attendance at the 2022 Shapinsay Show; commends the hard work of the Orkney agricultural community to maintain high standards and sustainability during the COVID-19 pandemic and through other challenges, including avian flu; thanks all organisers and volunteers for their year-round hard work to ensure the success and wide variety of the shows and to all those who took part, whether showing animals, providing entries to the wide variety of competition categories or hosting stalls, and wishes all the shows continued success and popularity in the future.
