No Pasaran Memorial Committee Ninth Annual Commemoration of North Lanarkshire Spanish War Volunteers

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the contribution of the members of the No Pasaran Memorial Committee of North Lanarkshire, who organised the annual event that commemorates the people of the North Lanarkshire communities who, it understands, fought against fascism during the Spanish Civil War; notes that the event took place on 17 July 2022 in Motherwell’s Duchess Park; further notes that it was the ninth anniversary commemoration since the memorial dedicated to volunteers from the area was installed in 2013; understands that The Spanish Civil War lasted three years, ending in 1939 with the loss of half a million lives, including 11 men from North Lanarkshire, whose sacrifice has been marked with the memorial stone in the park, and commends the members of the No Pasaran Memorial Committee for their continuous work.
