The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Glengarnock Ironworks Bowling Club, founded in 1857, on the opening of its new extension which was formally unveiled at a ceremony on 21 August 2022; understands that the new extension, which was funded by sportscotland and the club’s fundraising activities includes a new changing room as well as a ramp entranceway to increase access to wheelchair users; further understands that this major investment comes four years after the club was awarded charitable status; recognises the tenacity, commitment and sheer hard work of the Club Trustees led by Treasurer James J Gibson in striving to ensure that the club does not just survive but thrives, becoming a focal point for the people and communities of the Garnock Valley; notes that Glengarnock Ironworks Bowling Club received support from the local steelworks for decades as a sporting and social club for workers; understands that after the steelworks closed, the grounds were passed to the Scottish Development Agency before the club reached an agreement with Scottish Enterprise with the club buying the land in 2018; further understands that reinsulating the Loft, installation of LED lights, a new heat Source energy system including new radiators and boiler during the COVID-19 pandemic, all reduced the club’s overheads and carbon footprint; believes that Glengarnock Ironworks Bowling Club will continue to be an innovative and friendly club, and wishes it every success in the future.
