East Ayrshire Council – Suicide Prevention Strategy

The motion

That the Parliament commends East Ayrshire Council on their call to urge people in Cumnock and the surrounding area to sign up as a suicide first aider; notes that EAC Health and Social Care Partnership are providing free Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) which, it understands  would try to encourage people to look out for themselves and others and to make it normal to talk about mental health; understands that since rolling out the strategy “Here to Listen”, the suicide first aiders have provided crisis interventions for 123 people, with 60% of them being referred to suicide prevention counselling with Beautiful Inside and Out, and praises East Ayrshire Council and all the volunteers for their concerted efforts in trying to change the attitude of suicide by increasing awareness and understanding in communities.
