The motion

That the Parliament recognises that the travel group, Barrhead Travel, in partnership with Glasgow Clyde College, has reintroduced its 12-month modern apprenticeship scheme; understands that this apprenticeship scheme includes 50 positions, half of which involve a combination of learning on the job and class learning at college; considers that this apprenticeship programme will offer young people the opportunity to break into the travel and tourism industry and, as a consequence, grow that industry in Scotland; notes that Barrhead Travel’s initial inspiration for this scheme was recognising that many traditional travel and tourism apprenticeships in Scotland had either greatly reduced or stopped altogether, and it therefore wished to help reinvigorate the opportunities on offer for young people in Scotland, and considers that, as the travel and tourism industry begins to recover after going through many challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, companies such as Barrhead Travel are taking steps to ensure that it emerges stronger and that, as a new generation of people have the chance to enter the industry, they will feel optimistic in doing so.
