50th Anniversary of Kilbirnie Street Fire in Glasgow
The motion
That the Parliament remembers the seven Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) firefighters who lost their lives 50 years ago at the Kilbirnie Street fire in Glasgow in 1972; acknowledges that the SFRS rushed to the scene of a fire at Sher Brothers warehouse shortly after 11.20 am on the 25 August 1972; understands that as they tried to exit the building, Firefighter, James Rook became trapped and Divisional Officer, Andrew Quinn led a team of volunteers to rescue him and a "flashover" led to their deaths, and praises Divisional Officer, Andrew Quinn, Leading Firefighter, Alistair Crofts and Firefighters, Iain Bermingham, Allan Finlay, Duncan McMillan, William Hooper and James Rook for their bravery, giving the ultimate sacrifice to save lives, protect the people and the city of Glasgow.
